Nutrition for Conception

Watch what you eat

While trying to conceive it is important to watch what you put into your system for your over all health and well being and also to get ready for the baby.

I know it is really difficult to give up all that yummy stuff and get into the habit of eating some boring food but you can make it exciting for yourself, I say mix and match, try new things, try coming up with your own version and you 'll see that you'll not only enjoy them, you will also have fun trying them out.

Fruits and vegetables are really important while trying to conceive. try to eat lots of leafy green vegetables such spinach and other green vegetables such as green beans and broccoli. These are all good sources of  forlic acid which helps prevent birth defects in babies.
Citrus fruits, kiwi fruit, black currant and tomatoes are good sources of Vitamin C while you can get your Vitamin A from mangoes, apricots, carrots.

Remember to also include wholegrains, nuts and dairy products in your diet. Fish is also a good source of vitamin D but you should be careful not to go for the bigger ones as they are known to contain mercury, the smaller ones such as sardines, salmon and herring are better and don't forget you can get your Zinc from sea food and bananas(remember guys need zinc for sperm health)

Now, looking at everything listed above they don't look so interesting by themselves but I'll tell you what I do with fruits. I usually make a smoothie. It is more interesting to make and more yummy than just picking up an apple or banana to eat. making a smoothie is so simple and you can make it with any kind of fruit you choose.

RECIPE FOR A SMOOTHIE (serves 2)
You'll need

A blender
2 apples
1 ripe banana
2 oranges (peeled but not squeezed)
180g low fat yogurt
200 mls low fat milk

To make this smoothie just toss everything into the blender and blend until you get the consistency you like and just pour in a glass and drink. I promise you, you will love it.
I  think its a fun way to take fruits and you can try out a different mix of fruits each time to see how it turns out.

While you enjoy your smoothie, watch out for a recipe for vegetables.......
